How to plan around Latin American holidays

In 2027 the 12 countries here have between 5 (Uruguay) and 19 (Colombia) days off by law, counting the ones that land on a weekend. Only New Year's Day and Christmas are holidays in every country and the US. Put the dates in your team calendar in January. Plan launches and who covers support around them, especially Holy Week in March or April and the year-end weeks.

Frequently asked questions

Which Latin American country has the most public holidays?

In 2027, Colombia has the most national holidays on weekdays of the 12 countries in this planner, with 16. Uruguay has the fewest, with 2. The planner counts only days off by law that fall Monday to Friday, since those are the days your team loses.

Do Latin American holidays line up with US holidays?

Only a few do. New Year's Day and Christmas are shared everywhere. Most other Latin American holidays are national or religious days the US does not observe, and US days like Thanksgiving and Memorial Day are normal workdays in Latin America. Pick your countries above to see exactly which days your team is off while your US team works.

What is the difference between a day off by law and a widely observed day?

A day off by law is a holiday the law gives all private-sector workers across the country. Most are paid. A widely observed day is one that many people take off, but the law does not require private employers to close, such as Holy Thursday and Good Friday in Mexico, Carnival in Brazil, or the extra tourism days Argentina adds to make long weekends. The planner shows both and counts only days off by law.

Are the 2027 dates final?

Most are fixed by law. Some countries move holidays to a Monday or Friday each year, by law or by decree, and some 2027 calendars are not published yet. The planner marks those dates as not yet confirmed, and we update them when the official calendar comes out.

Do holidays apply to contractors?

Labor law sets holidays for employees. It does not cover contractors the same way, but most contractors still stop work on national holidays. Plan around them either way.

Can Opus help me hire in these countries?

Yes. Opus recruits across Latin America and sends 3 vetted candidates in 5 days. Most roles are hired in 14 days on average from brief received.
